Shape the Liberties Creative Campus

Dublin City Council is consulting on the feasibility of ambitious plans to bring forward a “creative campus” in the heart of the Liberties area of Dublin 8.

The proposals are part of an Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) regeneration project that aims to deliver new workspace for artists within the city. In total three initial council owned sites have been identified, at Bridgefoot Street and at 8 and 9 Merchants Quay (the site of the former Little St Anthony’s Theatre).

The vision of the project is to jointly develop the sites and properties, and partnering with existing organisations in Dublin 8, such as the existing NCAD site, to form a campus for the arts and cultural sector that will also deliver new community facilities and public spaces.

We have now concluded a final phase of public consultation to hear views on the concept proposals which have been developed as part of the feasibility study. You can still browse these concept plans here.

Artist Workspaces Survey

Earlier this year, Dublin City Council’s Arts Office undertook a baseline research study, surveying existing and emerging artists to explore the current and future requirements of artist workspaces in Dublin. More than 500+ individual artists and organisations responded – thank you for such a massive response. The insights gathered from the research helped established seven design principles which will be used for the creation of a design brief and to assess the feasibility of a Creative Campus on the two Dublin 8 sites.

The reports from this research are now available to view. Please click the buttons below to view and download the Findings and Analysis reports.

Community Consultation

Our latest public consultation

Earlier this year we undertook a final phase of public consultation on the concept proposals for the feasibility study. The survey sought to gather participant feedback concerning the concept design informed by the ten design principles which have been generated during earlier phases of consultation. The report from this period of public consultation is available to download here.

To help shape the feasibility proposals a creative campus in the Liberties, an ambitious co-design process has been underway since June 2020. This process has aimed to create a new model for artistic and creative collaboration and a process where the needs of the arts and cultural sector and local community can be brought together.

As part of the co-design process, at the end of 2020 we undertook consultation with the local communities, resident artists and cultural organisations, and the wider public through a series of online workshops and an online survey.

The series of workshops took place on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th November and hosted more than 50 people, each with a unique connection to The Liberties. To watch these workshop discussions please click here. The survey has now closed and a report from this community consultation can be downloaded here.
